The ALCC Digital Literacy Project is supported by an amazing group of advisors. Media professionals, and experts in the field of non-profit admninistration with a wide variety of experience and information to share. Advisors meet once a month and also share their skills as vounteers and mentors. The members of the Advisory committee are:Hugh McGuire - Committee ChairHugh McGuire is a Montreal based writer and web entrepreneur. He is the founder of LibriVox.org, a global non-commercial volunteer effort to make public domain books available in audio for free on the internet. He the co-founder of Collectik.net, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Atwater Library and Computer Centre, and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Atwater Digital Media School. Anuradha Dugal- Fundraising ConsultantAnuradha works at McGill University in Development, Alumni and University Relations, where she can combine her passion for education with her knowledge of non-profit fundraising. She was previously Regional Executive Director of Leave out Violence in Montreal, a youth lead organization working to reduce violence in the lives of young people and prior to that, the international fundraiser for the World March of Women, a project initiated by the Federation des femmes du Quebec. Trained as a teacher, she has worked with young people in schools in Canada, the UK, Spain and Japan. The education of young women being one of her major concerns, she specialized in single sex education and volunteered as a mentor to South Asian women considering careers in teaching while establishing an equal opportunity working group in school. Other volunteer work currently includes providing public education on breast feeding and support for mothers, and working on community-driven initiatives in Pointe St-Charles in Montreal. Paul ShorePaul Shore is a documentary director, media consultant and social entrepreneur. Prior to making his 2002 directorial debut for GNN, IBM and the Holocaust, he worked in the newsrooms of CNN and Fox News as a p.a. And then writer. He then worked at MTV as a casting director, at Globalvision as a producer for PBS and CBS, and then at Transform Media, where he shot and produced over 15 mini music docs. As GNN¹s Canadian Bureau Chief, Paul has produced various GNN film festivals across Canada and is negotiating with Canadian broadcasters to open up the airwaves to GNN media. Paul was a recipient of a Bravo TV Canada grant for his film Grafitti 101: For Ages 40 and Up, and last year, won the Jeanne Sauvé Scholarship (http://www.sauvescholars.org), a non-academic scholarship that brings under 30 year old media makers from around the world to Montreal to spend 8 months exploring how the media can be used to affect positive change. With Sauvé, he worked on a sex workers doc, trained print journalists in documentary production and founded The Apathy Is Boring Project (www.apathyisboring.com), a non-partisan organization that uses sarcasm, media, art and technology to engage youth in Canadian politics. Paul is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He hosts and produces the longest-running Canadian podcast, In Over Your Head, which is broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio every week. He has also worked on a number of web and city-space experimental works, orchestrated the first of Canada's flashmobs, and continues to experiment with new media in all its forms. Brett GaylorBrett Gaylor has been a key creative member of the Montreal production company EyeSteelFilm for over 5 years as an editor, music supervisor and director. As a digital activist, he is the web producer of the Homeless Nation.org, a web project dedicated to bridging the digital divide - allowing everyone to participate in online culture. He is currently in production on a feature documentary film, Basement Tapes, which examines the threat to the future of creativity posed by overzealous copyright regimes. The film will be a celebration of the emerging Free Culture movement. Brett is one of Canada’s first videobloggers and is the founder of the Montreal VideoBloggers Group. He has been working with youth and media for over 10 years, and is a founding instructor of the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. Jen SchultesJen is a web designer/developer and visual artist. Her portfolio includes corporate work in the media, professional and financial service sectors, creating internet and intranet sites, video, cd-rom, and interactive presentations. Since founding TiNG-TiNG design in 2001, she has focused on clients in the arts and in not-for-profit organizations. Her skills include concept development, information design, site architecture, and the development of visual design solutions. Ting-Ting Austin HillAustin Hill is a Montreal-based technology entreprenneur. He has founded his first company, Cyberspace Data Security, when he was seventeen, and has founded a number of other ventures since icluding TotalNet, and ZeroKnowledge. He is currently in the process of launching a new start-up. |
